Friday Harbor resident Corinne Stevens , Singer and lyric mezzo-soprano, has given performances in the San Juan Islands over the last two years, and on Saturday she is holding a fundraising concert to raise money for attendance at the Franco American Vocal Academy in Pèrigord, France this summer.
The performance of "Lucia's First Love" will be held on March 15th at 2:00PM at the Gubelman Room in the San Juan Community Theater.
Pianist Sarah Willson from Skagit Opera will accompany Stevens. The evening will follow a young woman's first love from introduction and infatuation to conflicts and betrayal. The story will be told through the world's most beautiful music, featuring German lieder from Schumann and Schubert, Italian arias from Puccini and Mozart, English art song from Vaughan Williams and Britten and more.
How does the story end?
Four endings, ranging from "death by betrayal" to "forgiveness and happiness" will be auctioned off during intermission and the lucky audience member who wins will decide the evening's encore song and the story's ending.
Admission is $20; tickets for sale at the door. All donations to benefit tuition and travel expenses to the Franco American Vocal Academy (total costs: $14,000) are fully tax-deductible, thanks to fiscal sponsorship from the arts advocacy organization Fractured Atlas, a 501(c)3 corporation.
Contributions can be made by credit card online through Fractured Atlas (visit www.corinnestevens.com and click Sponsorship for details) or by check made payable to Fractured Atlas and mailed to Corinne Stevens, PO Box 1915, Friday Harbor WA 98250.
Donations of $75 or more will receive the CD Corinne Stevens Sings the San Juans, a compilation of Stevens' live performances from the San Juan Islands over the last two years.
The Franco American Vocal Academy is a summer program for young operatic talent held June-August in Pèrigord, France run by Professor William Lewis, leading tenor of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City from 1958 to 1992.
Stevens will be featured as leading mezzo-soprano in their productions of La vie parisienne (role of Metella) and La Périchole (role of Mastrilla) and participate in masterclasses by opera singers of international renown along with French language lessons.
Stevens is a frequent performer with the San Juan Singers, San Juan Performing Arts Society, Winter Song & Dance Festivals and a company member of Skagit Opera, Puget Sound Concert Opera, and Vancouver Academy's Opera Studio. She has recently been invited to auditions in Munich and New York for the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Chicago Lyric, two of the world's most respected opera houses.
