01/25/2008: "ARC Has A Coordinator"

Tim Clark of Lopez Island is the new Project Coordinator for the Agricultural Conservation Easements Education Campaign

Tim will be assisting the Agricultural Resources Committee (ARC) as the Project Coordinator for its Agricultural Conservation Easements Education Campaign.

He graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Soil Science. Following college he moved to Lopez Island and has continued his work through further studies in Holistic Resource Management and wetland delineation.

He brings a variety of experience to the ARC, from raising organic beef and participating in the USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education grant program as well building a sod-roofed house and working as a field surveyor.

Tim also assisted the Lopez Community Land Trust in developing the USDA Mobile Processing Unit for livestock here in the islands.

The Agricultural Conservation Easements Education Campaign is funded for one year by a grant from the state Office of Farmland Preservation.

The campaign aims to identify priority regions for preservation efforts, organize town hall meetings on islands of interest, educate folks about agricultural conservation easements, find solutions with landowners to keep land in agriculture and coordinate the implementation of a countywide agricultural land inventory.

This ARC effort is a collaborative partnership with the San Juan County Land Bank, San Juan Preservation Trust and the San Juan Islands Conservation District.
