01/16/2008: "Tossed and Found"

During 2007, volunteers picking up litter on San Juan Island roads found numerous items that you may have tossed, either intentionally or accidentally, and have not yet found.

Several, but by no means all, of these items are shown here and below.

If you recognize one of these tossed and found items as yours and would like to claim it, you can contact the San Juan Island Anti-Litter Initiative and arrange to pick it up during normal business hours.

-See additional items below:

To recover your item, you will need to present proof of purchase and pay a fee of $103 to $5,000 to the San Juan County Court system, with the amount dependent upon the size of the object. If the tossed item had the potential to cause physical damage, such as one of the large metal objects shown below, you will need to pay $1,025.00

However, if the item caused actual bodily harm in the process of being tossed, it is highly recommended that you not pursue its recovery, as in this case the court system may require that you spend up to one year in jail.

What You Can Do
In order to avoid these recovery costs and possible jail time in the future, all you need to do is be a responsible citizen, respect your fellow islanders and our environment, and properly secure your load.
