12/19/2007: "Spring Street Begins 2008 Scholarship Fund Drive"

Spring Street International School’s (SSIS) Scholarship Fund has set a goal of $250.000 for 2008. All donations to the fund will be used for San Juan County families who wish to have their children benefit from an SSIS education but who need financial assistance to do so.

Scholarships are planned for the start of the 2008/ 2009 school term in September 2008. Application details will be available after the New Year and scholarship applicants will be able to apply for a range of financial assistance packages.

Jerry Riley, Director of Admission / Development for SSIS points out that “quality education is critical to the future of our community and our nation. The gift of a Spring Street School education can transform a student’s life. It creates a foundation for a student that teaches him/her to think critically and to gain a lifelong love of learning, resulting in extraordinary student outcomes.”

Over the past twelve years, Spring Street International School (has served families of all socioeconomic status. The school has contributed yearly scholarships to our community at the rate of approximately $140,000. Since its inception, SSIS has provided financially challenged students and their families tuition assistance amounting to close to one million dollars!

Riley stated in a press relase that “SSIS has a strong commitment to serve all the families in our diverse community but it does create a serious financial challenge. Last year, over 60% of our families in the county received financial assistance. The percentage at most independent schools is only 15%.”

The public is asked to contact the school at 360-378-6393 for more details -or to make a donation.
