09/25/2007: "County May Pay Henrickson $500 Mo To Be Pro-Tem"

The County Council may offer to pay current Community Development and Planning Director Ron Henrickson $500.00 a month to act as the County Administrator Pro-Tem. This would be in addition to Hendrickson’s current responsibilities and salary as the CD&P director.

A Pro-tem is required under the Charter, and is intended to be available to step-in in the absence of the County Administrator. When Hendrickson was offered the position by the County Council, he accepted the position and declined any compensation for the position.

According to Administrator Rose, Hendrickson has since been a party to weekly meetings held by Rose, and as been active in taking on some “’critical public contacts’, and been involved in ‘Confidential items (i.e. labor issues, disciplinary issues, legal matters and important issues).’”

For these reasons, Rose has recommended to the Council that “the opportunity to use the Pro-Tem as a member of the team of key staff working the issues of central administration and County priorities is the least costly increment of ’help’ for the County Administrator”. Rose also points out that due to “an oversight of the Eden software implementation”, that is: the new accounting system the County uses, Henrickson as been receiving “a stipend of $500 per month.”

The matter will be discussed by the Council today. It is not known if Hendrickson’s obligations to CD&P will be impacted by the proposed new role, and if he is to spend less time on CD&P work, will there be an adjustment made to his current salary as a result.
