08/03/2007: "Care Package Donations 1st Saturday Ea Month in FH"

Market Place in Friday Harbor will be the location on Saturday to make donations to Care Packages that will be sent to the men and women of the Armed Forces serving overseas.
A table will be set up on the first Saturday of every month at Market Place as the collection location for donated items to include in the packages.
Below is the list of items that will be collected This list will be expanded when feedback is received about what they want or need. The public can also donate money that will be used for postage, or to purchase more of the items on the following list.
PERSONAL ITEMS
Facial wipes
Hand sanitizer
Phone cards
Polarized sun glasses
Flip flops
Sunscreen lotion
Paper back books
Popular music CDs
FOOD ITEMS
Any salty snacks
Canned or packaged Nuts
Beef jerky
Pretzels
Sardines
Granola bars
Vienna Sausages
Hot sauces are used to enhance the taste of MREs
Chewing gum
Hard candy
Chips (Pringles in the can travel well)
The Public’s contributions will be sent to local troops currently serving overseas. The program is designed to provide regular packages from home and supplies and notes from their family and friends.
If anyone would like to send a note of encouragement or a message about the happenings in our town to our local service men, they may be email to: llarson419@rockisland.com RD Larson will compile all of the comments and notes into a larger letter to include in the care packages that are send.
The first packages will be sent next week and it is hoped that they can continue to be send monthly Even if you don’t know them personally, the public can contact them through this service.
