03/16/2007: "Matt Zybas Will Return To Snohomish County"
After having served in SJC Public Works, then as an Interim Director of CD& PD (Community Development and Planning Department), then returned back to Public Works , Matt Zybas will now be returning to Snohomish County.
Zybas spent some time in the glare of public scrutiny as he sat in the hot seats of director of the permitting and planning department, and anonymity was not to be after he returned to Public Works, where he worked on the controversial stormwater ordinance and the new storm water fees that are added to property tax bills on all developed property; and as been the cause for the filing of the first referendum in San Juan County.
Those who worked with him and for him, both in the public and private sector, said they found him to be accessable, and responsive -even when under fire for issues beyond his control; and more than one person said they will miss his up-beat personality and ability to retain his sense of humor. On a number of occasions it was noted by the County Council that there was a noticeable increase in morale during his stint as the interim Director of CD&PD.
In a phone conversation Zybas said he would be moving out of San Juan County, but had no comment on the reason why he was making the move, nor what position he would be taking in Snohomish County. In the past he has worked in the Solid Waste Management division in Benton and Snohomish county, and at one time was the waste reduction coordinator for the City of Richland.
