05/26/2006: "Ferries Start Summer Season"

On Monday, May 29, the Anacortes/San Juan Islands route will be on a Sunday schedule, which provides an additional sailing from Orcas Island in the afternoon at 4:15 p.m.; Friday Harbor gets additional capacity at 4:15 p.m. which means that the 4:55 p.m. sailing off Lopez will take some vehicles, but there will be additional capacity on the 5:35 p.m. sailing from Lopez.

Washington State Ferries will be supplementing service this Memorial Day weekend to help meet traffic demands but travelers should expect some delay. Travelers are encouraged to travel during non-commute times (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or after 7 p.m.) Returning home, it's best to travel as early in the day as possible. If you're traveling with small children, toys and games and a picnic lunch can make the wait seem like part of the trip.
Memorial Day traditionally means summer crowds on board Washington State Ferries (WSF). Adding sunshine and blue skies to this three-day weekend can equate to traffic backups on Friday afternoon and evening heading to your destination and again on Monday, as travelers head home. It's usually a good idea to pack some patience as travelers head out. But rest assured Washington State Ferries will get you where you're going.
For information on schedules and up-to-date traffic information, check the ferries web site at www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries or call 1-888-808-7977.
