05/12/2006: "SJ Preservation Trust Members Elect New Trustees"
The San Juan Preservation Trust has announced that its membership has elected four new trustees, and re-elected six members to its board of trustees. Past Story on SJP Trust The new trustees are: Charles J. Bodenstab; Katie Hover; Steve McKeon;and Dianne Pressenda. The trustees re-elected are: David Ashbaugh; Will Hamilton; Harvey Himelfarb; Sara Longworth; Joseph Todd;and Jonathan White.

About the San Juan Preservation Trust
Founded in 1979, the San Juan Preservation Trust is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) land trust dedicated to helping people protect forests, working farmland, wildlife habitats, wetlands, and shorelines in the San Juan Islands through private voluntary action. The Preservation Trust has permanently protected more than 10,000 acres of natural land, including 23 miles of shoreline on 17 islands through acquisition and voluntary conservation agreements. The new trustees are:
Charles J. Bodenstab of San Juan Island. He retired to the islands after a distinguished career as a corporate executive for several Fortune 500 companies. Bodenstab has written business books as well as columns for INC. magazine. He served as a Freeholder for San Juan County, served on the boards of The United Way of San Juan County, the Westcott Bay Institute, and the Spring Street School. He also served as Commodore of the San Juan Island Yacht Club.
Katie Hover of San Juan Island. After graduation from the University of California, Berkeley, she received a Master's degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Hawaii. She worked as a Microsoft researcher and librarian before moving to San Juan Island where she worked for the Washington State University Extension. She and her husband, Paul Lacrampe, own and operate Lacrover Farm - an organically certified farm protected by the San Juan Preservation Trust. Katie also volunteers as a WSU Master Gardener and livestock advisor, and works at the San Juan Island Public Library.
Steve McKeon of Orcas Island. After graduating from Stanford Law School, he practiced corporate finance and business transactions law for 25 years. McKeon joined the senior management team of Puget Sound Energy in 1997, serving as chief legal counsel and then as chief financial officer.
Dianne Pressenda of Lopez Island. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Business at San Jose State College. After graduating she worked for the Alaska Department of Labor. In 1982 she moved to Lopez, became a realtor, and served on the county's Comprehensive Plan and Open Space Committees, among other volunteer civic activities. She and her husband own a farm on Lopez that is protected by the San Juan County Land Bank.
The following Preservation Trust trustees were re-elected to serve another term:
David Ashbaugh of Lopez Island, former vice president of the Preservation Trust board, received his MD from Ohio State and was a Fulbright Scholar before practicing medicine in Colorado and Idaho. He also taught at the University of Washington. Ashbaugh has served on the boards of medical organizations, the Lopez Clinic and the Lopez Island Library.
Will Hamilton of San Juan Island is a consulting forester who has assisted many landowners in the San Juan Islands in the practice of good forest stewardship and conservation. Hamilton also serves as a trustee of the Western Washington University Foundation.
Harvey Himelfarb of Orcas Island earned his B.A and Master's degrees in art and photography in San Francisco, and taught at the University of California, Berkeley and at Purdue University before joining the faculty at the University of California, Davis. During an active artistic career, Himelfarb showed his work at major art museums and galleries, and taught photography and printmaking for many years before concluding his career as the campus' Vice Provost for Academic Personnel and Programs.
Sara Longworth of Fidalgo Island was educated at USC and the University of Wisconsin, earning a B.A. in Speech Communication and an M.A. in Communication Arts. She taught at U.C.L.A. before beginning her 20-year career in information systems and financial services. Longworth honed her outreach skills as a Bank of America United Way Leadership representative.
Joseph Todd of San Juan Island is a graduate of Duke University and a retired CPA who spent more than 25 years in public accounting. He has served on numerous professional committees and non-profit boards, including the Executive Committee of the San Juan Community Theater.
Jonathan White of Orcas Island served on the San Juan County Planning Commission for five years. He was the founder and director of Resource Institute, a non-profit organization that sponsored seminars from Seattle to Alaska aboard a 65-foot schooner. He is a successful writer on environmental subjects.
