03/30/2006: "Friends of the San Juans Awarded PIE Grant"
(Friends press release) The Puget Sound Action Team has awarded Public Involvement and Education funds to Friends of the San Juans to expand their Shoreline Stewardship Program. San Juan County's shorelines provide critical habitat for marine food webs and at-risk species, including forage fish, salmon and orca whales.
Friends of the San Juans' Shoreline Stewardship Program will support: 1) expert site consultations for interested shoreline property owners; 2) distribution of a Shoreline Stewardship Guide to shoreline property owners and realtors; and 3) a shoreline management work session for excavators, land use consultants and land managers. If you own, manage or work with shoreline property in San Juan County, please contact Tina Whitman, Friends' Science Director, at 360-378-2319 to find out more about the Shoreline Stewardship Program.
