10/15/2005: "Start with Pumpkin Carving & then it is the Oktoberfest"

Pumpkin Carving: 1:00-3:30 pm
Get ready to get messy and creative for this pumpkin-carving bash! We will be meeting at the family resource center on Saturday October 15th from 1:00-3:30 pm to carve our pumpkins. Use a template or create your own design for your jack-o-lantern. Island Rec will provide your family with a pumpkin, tools, templates and snacks. The cost is $10.00 and the registration deadline is October 5th. Oktoberfest: 5:30 – 9:30 p.m
San Juan Island will celebrate our 11th Annual Oktoberfest at the Fairgrounds on October 15th from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Oktoberfest will serve traditional food prepared by the Front Street Ale House, provide beverages from the San Juan Brewing Company, have contests (Who will be YOUR partner for the Bavarian Hat Contest?), oompah music from the Van Alen Blaskapelle, polkas, singing, and the famous Chicken Dance. Entry for the event is $8.00 and kids are free. Tickets purchased at the door.
Hearty eaters will enjoy the Oktoberfest Buffet at $12 for a heaping plate including your choice of such favorites as Smoked Pork Chops, Potato Pancakes, Sauerkraut, Cabbage Rolls, Shepherd's Pie, Chili, Cajun Meatloaf, BBQ Beef Ribs, Steak & Kidney Pie, Manhattan Red Chowder, Bratwurst, and assorted Sausages. The buffet includes a salad bar of Potato Salad, Spinach Salad with Hot Bacon Dressing, Olives, Pickled Herring, Coleslaw and other taste-tempters. Also on the menu will be Hot Dogs for $3.00 (All Beef, Andouille, Kielbasa, or Bockwurst) with Sauerkraut, Hot-sauced Onions, or Chili. New this year will be Pizza by the slice for $2.00. Finish it all off with a delicious piece of Black Forest Cake or Carrot Cake for $4.00 a slice.
Dave Pratt will entertain you with his accordion and share the Master of Ceremonies role with Dick Barnes. Tom Starr has gathered local musicians once again for rousing music from the Van Alen Blaskapelle.
