08/08/2018: "Sea Scouts On SJI 1st Meeting Thursday"

ig_SO_SeaScouts_Logo-001 (58k image)Sea Scouts will hold their first meeting Thursday (August 9th) at the San Juan Yacht Club 18:30 (6:30pm), for both young men and women ages 14-21. Learn maritime skills and obtain a free youth membership to the Yacht Club as well.

For nearly 100 years Sea Scouts have been cruising the waters of the Salish Sea on sailboats, power boats, canoes, kayaks and more recently, stand up paddle

For Sea Scouts 2018 had been declared the year of Getting on the Water.

Small boats are a wonderful way to get Sea Scouts on the water every week. This provides an opportunity for hands-on activity, fun and character building through adventure.

The benefits of small boats are huge. Sea Scouts who are taking out a boat frequently are constantly becoming better sailors. Weekly small boat activities can also help keep Scouts excited about being a Sea Scout. This positive energy in a Sea Scout Ship can help with retaining existing Sea Scouts and recruiting new ones.

Sea Scout volunteers help their Sea Scouts keep the Sea Promise by reviewing Safety Afloat with the youth, having a Float Plan filed online prior to any weekend aquatic activity.

The Sea Scout mission is the same as the Boy Scouts mission: to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices and to internalize the Scout Oath and Law. They just do that on boats. Stop by Thursday and, Be Prepared, to be amazed.
