05/14/2005: "Salal Homes Tour Successful "
Landscaping has just been completed with the assistance of AmeriCorps volunteers. The AmeriCorps Crew Poses After Work On Salal Project
The Home Trust of San Juan Island held there first tour of the Salal homes on Saturday, May 14, The permanently affordable houses for low and moderate-income residents of San Juan Island were open for a tour by a public made up of "So what do they look like?", those who have been involved, and some people who were "Shopping".
The project is located on Carter Avenue next to the Hillside House Bed and Breakfast. Construction will begin soon on five additional houses at the same site and the Home Trust is currently accepting applications Eligibility Requirements for these two- and
three-bedroom homes.
Homeowners and Home Trust Board Members were on hand to guide tours,
provide refreshments and answer questions about the Salal homes.
The Home Trust is pleased to share this fine project with the community.
Although the two and one-half acre site would have supported 35 units, the
Salad Neighborhood is less than half that at 15 homes in three clusters of
five allowing for significant open space. The Home Trust would like to
thank all who worked on this project.
